Bioaccumulation of Synthetic Dyes by Candida tropicalis Growing in Sugarcane Bagasse Extract Medium
نویسنده
چکیده
Bioaccumulation of synthetic dyes viz. Acid Blue 93, Direct Red 28 and Basic Violet 3 by the environmental yeast isolate, Candida tropicalis growing in aqueous extract of sugarcane bagasse medium was studied in a batch system as a function of initial pH and dye concentrations. The optimum pH value for bioaccumulation was found to be 3.0 for Acid Blue 93 and Direct Red 28 and 5.0 for Basic Violet 3. The increase in dye concentration decreased the specific growth rate and bioaccumulation properties of the yeast. Non competitive kinetic model was tested in order to determine the inhibitory effects of dyes on the specific growth rate of Candida tropicalis. Basic violet 3 was found to be more toxic than the other two dyes. The combined effects of sugarcane bagasse extract and initial dye concentrations on the specific growth rate and dye bioaccumulation efficiency of Candida tropicalis were investigated.

Vermicompost produced from sugarcane bagasse (SBV) or sawdust (S) were substituted at a range of different concentration in soilless bedding plant container medium, as a peat: vermiculite: perlite (6:3:1), to evaluate their effects on the growth of Dieffenbachia amoena in the greenhouse. Dieffenbachia amoena was grown in container medium PE: VE: P (6:3:1), in that peat substituted with 0%, 10%,...

The use of hemicellulosic hydrolysates in bioprocesses requires supplementation as to ensure the best fermentative performance of microorganisms. However, in light of conflicting data in the literature, it is necessary to establish an inexpensive and applicable medium for the development of bioprocesses. This paper evaluates the fermentative performance of Scheffersomyces (Pichia) stipitis and ...

Stationary cultures of Pleurotus ostreatus, MTCC-1804 supplemented with bagasse powder or its ethanolic extract, showed a concentration-dependent enhancement in the laccase activity both in liquid and semi-solid (glass bead) cultures. Bagasse extract also imparted greater stability to the enzyme. Mn-peroxidase (MnP) activity was detected only in cultures supplemented with bagasse or its extract...

Bioconversion of hemicellulosic hydrolysates into ethanol with the desired yields plays a pivotal role for the overall success of biorefineries. This paper aims to evaluate the ethanol production potential of four native strains of Scheffersomyces shehatae (syn. Candida shehatae) viz. S. shehatae BR6-2AI, CG8-8BY, PT1-1BASP and BR6-2AY, isolated from Brazilian forests. These strains were grown ...
